inside a part of the town walls, the historic centre of Appignano
testifies its own brilliant past. It was probably formed about 300 as a
Roman settlement and successively developed around the church of Santa Maria di Taquignano (built by the Romualdini friars). Even
nowadays it generously reveals its medieval traces.
