The
Sea
It is an enchanting experience to gaze at the soft hills of the Marche
fall into the blue waters of the Adriatic Sea like a magical illusion.
Equally as fascinating is the unique natural beauty of the coastline
combined with the erratic seasonal behaviour of the sea.
The sea has always given its precious goods to those who have loved
it by providing fish, opening profitable trades and offering its beautiful
shorelines to tourists looking for unspoilt natural landscapes enriched by a
long history. This is why the 180 km of coastline that stretches from the
Gabicce Mare cape to the mouth of the Tronto River makes it probably the
best place to come and appreciate its gifts.
There are numerous beauty spots that appear
along the shoreline up to the Conero coast including the “Riviera delle
Colline” with its numerous holiday resorts (Gabicce mare, Pesaro and
Fano), the Velvet Beach of Senigallia and the port of Ancona (along with the
wonderful “Mole Vanvitelliana” from the XVIII century). In addition to
this there are also many small preserves and hidden bays cut into the rocks
along the territories of Portonovo, Sirolo and Numana.
If you walk along the wide
flat beaches it is possible to reach the coast of Porto Recanati, Porto
Potenza Picena and Civitanova Marche. These places are renowned for their
ancient marine traditions and many are still evident today. Moving south,
the beautiful shorelines of Cupramarittima, Grottammare, San Benedetto del
Tronto and Porto d’Ascoli resemble an exotic landscape because of the
continuous succession of palm trees that colourfully adorn the fine sandy
beach. Thanks to the kindness of the inhabitants and blessed by a well
preserved environment that annually wins numerous European blue flags, the
Marche coast easily satisfies most of its visitor’s desires.
