La
Riviera del Conero
The sight that can be seen driving
along the road that leads into the Conero Park is absolutely stunning.
From the natural Belvedere the deep blue sea opens all of a sudden to the
visitors’ eyes.
That is the Conero Riviera. It is characterized by thousands little
isolated bays and rocks that dive into the clear sea. The place is
wonderful for those who love to be in contact with nature or for those who
are keen on underwater photographing.
The clear sea-beds are in fact a paradise: they are reach in vegetation
and fishes. Even rocks have so much personality as to deserve a name here:
Seggiola del Papa (the Pope’s
seat), Scogli del Cavallo (the
horse rocks), Lo scoglio della trave
(the Beam rock), Le Due Sorelle
(the two Sisters). Natural sculptures that stand still on the sea to tell
their magic story.
Lots of small beaches (often awarded with the blue flag) are often
reachable by sea or on foot, through alleys cut off the mountains (Mezzavalle
beach for example, favourite destination for adventurous tourists). Portonovo beach is instead within easy reach (by car or by bus) and
boasts a little Romanic church.
It is set among thick vegetation and is dedicated to Holy Mary. Eighteenth
century fortresses (Torre di Guardia and Fortino Napoleonico) are now
occupied by an hotel. Portonovo pebbled beach is well supplied for
tourists, with beautiful and well organized lidos and good restaurants. Spiaggia
della Vela is also worth mentioning. Its name is given by a
particularly shaped rock nearby (whose shape resembles a sail, Vela in
Italian).
And so it is for “Le Due Sorelle” (the “two sisters”), two twin
rocks emerge in fact from the sea that washes the beautiful beach. It is a
quiet place because it can be reached only by sea or through a difficult
path.
Close to the historical centre of Sirolo, passing from bays to rocks and
still surrounded by scented nature, it is possible to enjoy the beautiful
“Spiaggia dei Sassi Neri”
much beloved by naturists.
La Spiaggia di San Michele is
characterized by rocky peaks that dive into the sea, while Spiaggia
Urbani by its halfmoon shape. It is well provided with lidos. It is a
promontory that dives into the sea and that marks the border between
Sirolo and Numana.
Spiaggiola
in Numana is a wonderful seashore lined with beach umbrellas and protected
by three rows of cliffs.
The tourist port of Numana, with lots of facilities, puts and end to the
jagged coastline and opens the way to the broader beaches reach in lidos,
sport clubs, restaurants and facilities for all needs that stretches as
far as Marcelli, where the beautiful “Riviera
del Conero” ends.
