The first settlements in the territory of S. Marcello date back to the year one thousand, when a group of Benedictine Friars moved from the abbey of Moie to the hills and built, on the highest point, a monastery and a church dedicated to Pope San Marcello. The village was founded in the 1234: a group of inhabitants from Jesi obtained the permission by their municipality to settle on the top of Mount San Marcello. |
