San Costanzo, based on ancient archaeological findings such as the discovery of a Picean burial ground, dates back to around the 8th – 7th centuries B.C.
In the fifteenth century there is the documented presence of the Malatesta who supposedly built the castle walls. The Castle of San Costanzo gained great strategical importance, so much so that in 1429 the Fanese fixed the walls in order to use it in the feared invasion of the Visconti.
