La Rocca Roveresca
Senigallia
Le Marche
Italy
La Rocca Roveresca of Senigallia is the result of a combination of
defensive structures in the course of centuries, from the origins of the
city.
Built during the Roman Empire in 300 BC La Rocca of Senigallia was never
useless, serving as a fortress of defense as a symbol of power, place of
formation of militias , like a prison during the papal age, a hospital
during the First World War.
Restructured by Giovanni della Rovere, lord of Senigallia, who gave to
it the name of "Fortress Roveresca ," just for the remarkable changes
over the fortress. Mainly he decided to renew it by the incursion of the
Turks to defend Senigallia, but above all to defend himself and his
family.
Today the fortress Roveresca hosts many art exhibitions and major
cultural and important events. These include the exhibition of the
regional market crafts that allows visitors to appreciate more the old
town of Senigallia.
Each individual artisan exhibits and sells its own production and
studio, and at the same time shows live their art. More than 120
companies exhibit their products and they come from Le Marche and from
Italy.
They are creators of glass, coral, fabric, basketry, ceramics, pottery,
painting on wood, restoration, wax objects, wrought iron, lace and
embroidery and much more. Some local artisans organize real short
courses of: decoupage, paper processing, embroidery, crochet and even
music.
La Rocca Roveresca, can be visited every day. The thing that
particularly affects in La Rocca Roveresca is the constant presence of
the words ”IO” , "IO DUX" and "IO PRE" which refers to Giovanni della
Rovere, Duke and Prefect. "IO " does not refer to the sense of "me", but
"Do", initial OF Doannes, or Giovanni.
Probably refers to "IO" as if the rock could talk, and he revive through
it. Inside the rooms at the base of the archives there are depictions of
the mysterious sphinx and on her head there are seven snakes.
Both animals are a symbol of cunning and intelligence. To defeat the
Sphinx one must answer his riddle, but the serpent is the symbol of
deception. What fascinates considerably and is a true masterpiece of
engineering and architecture is the spiral staircase.
There are other examples of similar spiral staircase: the Palazzo Ducale
in Urbino, Pesaro in the Rocca Costanza and the fortress of Mondavio and
Mondolfo. Usually in every castle there is one for each tower, but they
were usually built around a column for a safety measure.
The spiral staircase of La Rocca Roveresca however, is a true work of
art, it is not a straight defensive, but scale to be admired. The stone
with the 5 circles is located in the basement and probably refers to the
harmony of the five levels of knowledge.
These levels of consciousness or levels of consciousness, have been
represented in various parts of Italy without a real link between them.
We do not know the true origin of this symbol but it is presumed it was
Templar, because of the symbolism that emanates.
Something special is the chapel of the fifteenth century, a small square
room. You can also visit the prisons of the castle that reveal very low
small rooms.
The prisoner was forced to live most of his life sitting and it was a
real torture. The yard represents all the construction phase of the
fortress. From a military zone, to a defensive which moves to a
renaissance and elegant look .
On the wall of the inhabited zone there is the covered cell of a
prisoner which is said was buried alive.
